Animal Farm - 1945-1946Animaal Farm is a satire that uses allegorical plot and language to depict the Totalitarianism in the Soviet Union and Stalinism. Orwell, a democratic socialist himself, and being part of the Independent Labour Party does not favour Stalin. All of the events during the Russian Revolution was planned out and put together carefully into this book. Animal Farm describes how Napoleon(Stalin) manipulates the animals(peasants) through tyranny and arbitrary punishments. The inequality between animals shows the rise of dictatorship which cycles after the Tsar was removed. (Background Information, n.d.)

Nineteen Eighty-four - 1949Nineteen Eighty-Four is another political novel written to tell the reader the danger of totalitarianism. Orwell portrays the state being absolutely controlled by the government, no matter if it was your behaviour, language, mindset, morals, beliefs etc, the totalitarian government can take over all off those and take over you. the book talks about the psychological manipulation, body control, mind control, media and history that can all be monitored by the totalitarian government because they want absolute control, absolute power. It can be said as re-setting the system in our brains or "brainwashing" because every action or word that you are exposed to is what the Totalitarians want you to be exposed to. This way, they can maintain their ideal world within our brains.
