Joseph Stalin
One of the most violent and brutal man in history, an autocrat named joseph stalin. he was the ruler of the soviet union for a quarter of a century and was extraordinary in his sabotages during the regime of terror. millions suffered from him and even the nazis was no match (BBC, n.d).Joseph Stalin, originally named Iosif Vissarionvich Dzhugashvili was born in Gori, Georgia on 18 December 1879 (BBC, n.d). His name was remodeled to "Stalin" meaning steel in Russian during the Russian Revolution.
Stalin was an outstanding student in seminary school, though he dropped school in 1899 and joined a socialist related group called Messame Dassy, where he was exposed to writings of Lenin and Marx beforehand in 1898. He worked for the Social Democratic Labor Party for the revolutionary movement in 1901. (Joseph Stalin, n.d.) After the seizure of power of the Tsar, Stalin was appointed as a General Secretary by Lenin to assist him to control the Communist Party. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Stalin removed thousands of supporters supporting Trotsky which concerned Lenin because of the great power Stalin has which is beginning to grow. He decided to write a testament which suggested to remove Stalin from the his position, though Lenin could not write or talk three days later. Eventually, Lenin's power was ceased from the Soviet Union. (Simkin, 2013) After Lenin's death in 1924, Stalin planned out his path to become a political heir. To destroy the ideas of Lenin from the old party, he seized power from the people through public condemnation and rearranged the organisation of the party. The ones who may become a threat to him were most likely exiled to other countries across Europe and America, and one of them was a successor, Leon Trotsky.(Joseph Stalin, n.d.) No one escaped his tyranny, and the reign of terror was brutal and bloody. Stalin gradually stepped up and became one of the leaders of the Soviet Union. (BBC, n.d) |
NapoleonIn the late 1920s to early 1930s, Stalin introduced the Five Year Plan. He forced collectivization of agriculture which costs millions of lives, while achieving the industrilisation of economic growth and productivity. The population suffered during the Great Terror in 1930s when Stalin removed the "enemies" resulting in the execution of many people or going to the labour camps. (BBC, n.d) The life of the people was harsh. Punishment was severe for failure and execution was just as common. Nobody would dare to criticize the Five Year Plan because the consequences would be fatal. (BBC, n.d.)
The Five Year Plan symbolises the making of the windmill in Animal Farm. All the hard labour was done with not enough as the repayment and anyone who disobeyed him would mean death. Stalin trusted Hitler with the agreement of the nonaggression pact as war seeped through Europe in 1939. Assured that Hitler would not attack Soviet Army, Stalin ignored warnings regarding to the move in of Germany. Caught off guard, the Soviet Army suffered a great loss in the ensuing days. The situation got worse in the 1930s and the Soviet Army and government regulations got to the point where they were nearly unable to proceed. (Joseph Stalin, n.d.) Referring back to Animal Farm, this scenery resembles to the trade with Mr. Frederick, the neighbouring farmer. His intention to blow up the windmill with the cover up of making a trade was an act of treachery. The animals were attacked, unprepared and suffered from great damage and injuries, but even worse, the main power source - Boxer was badly injured. It was clear that Stalin resembles Napoleon in Animal Farm. His arbitrary despotism led terror to the animals, despite the animals had little questioning and disapproval. Squealer used rhetorical language to distort the meaning of equality of the Seven Commandments throughout the novella. |
